Though Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone had been nominated for three 2002 Oscars awards (Best Music Score, Costume Design & Art Direction), the film ended up failing to win any.
Warner Bros reiterates (in November 2002) their claims that Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone has become the second-highest grossing film of all time.
The film has confirmedly climbed past previous number two Star Wars, Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, which has taken 922,8 million US Dollars in box-office receipts.
Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone is now reported to have earned 926,1 million US Dollars.
The Titanic, however, with a record 1.8 billion earning, remains by far the box-office leader, worldwide.

In March, 2002, JK Rowling was elected an honorary fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh, an organisation comprising some of Scotland's foremost experts in science, technology, medicine, the humanities, arts and business.
A spokesman for the Society described JK Rowling's election as significant, adding that there had been no questioning of her credentials, though. |
