Coach⁄Manager:   Otto Pfister – On June 12, Otto Pfister was announced to have reached
an agreement with Togo's Football Federation, so he would be returning
to the Squad's command, per request especially of the players, themselves. The long 'soap' that
this has turned into (see below) may not be totally over yet, as M. Assogbavi Komlan's
unfavorable remarks regarding Otto Pfister indicate (M. Assogbavi, General Secretary of the
Fédération Togolaise de Football reportedly declared that he neither likes Pfister, nor
thinks the German is the adequate coach for the Togolese Squad.)
A couple of days later, the soap was finally over, at list in principle,
and Otto Pfister confirmed till the squad's last World Cup match.
Kodjovi Mawuena was Togo's third coach for just a few days, as the World Cup was kicking off.
He filled the position which had suddenly become vacant on the eve of the World Cup (see below).
Kodjovi Mawuena originally arrived in Germany as one of Otto Pfister's assistants,
being lifted to the main post when it was left vacant, though there is no official word yet,
on whether this is a temporary or a permanent replacement, for the World Cup..
Otto Pfister (German-born) led the team up to Germany, having resigned just as the
World Cup was about to kick off. A bonus & allowances dispute reportedly caused Pfister's
resignation, as he and the Togolese Football Federation (FTF) were to have made an agreement
regarding the issue, which then seemed not to have been honored—thus the
above-mentioned dispute between the FTF and the players.
(See on the World Cup Write-up page a related episode in Otto Pfister's career.)
Stephen Keshi (Nigerian-born) had originally qualified the team for the World Cup,
sky-rising nation euphoria, then; but poor results in the African Nations Cup cost him his post.
